The secret is out: Thermal paste is used inside the NUC 8 Compute Element featuring the 15W Whiskey Lake i7-8665U. Less exciting is the thermal pad used in the NUC Rugged Chassis Element but the case does feature two heat pipes, which is pretty smart.
Overall, temperatures are good (under 63°C) power consumption is minimal (under 28W) and performance is adequate: The system handles 4K movies just fine, and is even able to play 8K files smoothly.
