Forget the rice grain method, and just spread it (our method of choice). It's simply the best way to cover the entire heat spreader. One of the best thermal paste on the market is now available with its own spatula for $9.90. Noctua's NH-T1 is highly efficient, highly stable over time, and is not electrically conductive. The NH-T1 is easy to apply and safe to use with most heat sinks, including the NH-P1 of course.
